Two Arrests in the Aftermath of Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack
An additional two individuals are now in custody related to a theft at London's Heathrow Airport where over twenty individuals were injured by what is thought to be an irritant spray, according to law enforcement.
A 24-year-old man, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area for suspected theft and assault and a woman, 23 was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit a robbery. Both individuals remain in custody, the force said.
The arrests come after an investigation into an attack at the multi-level parking garage at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Before the attack, a pair of female travelers were robbed of their suitcases upon exiting a car park lift.
A toddler aged three was one of the those hurt during the incident. A total of five individuals were taken to the hospital for medical care and have since been released.
Officers detained a man in his thirties for suspected robbery and assault near the scene. He was subsequently released under investigation while inquiries continue.
Authorities were called at about 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding several individuals hurt by a noxious substance thought to be an irritant spray.
The attack - which police said was isolated and not being treated as an act of terror - caused train delays and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the T3 parking facility for a short time.
