Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team ran a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
